Quick KiyoClear Aligners Q+A

KiyoClear Orthodontic Aligners should be worn 20 to 22 hours per day. The more you wear your KiyoClear Aligners, the more effective they will be.

It is important to wash and dry your hands prior to handling your aligners. Handle them one at a time.

Gently start to push the Aligner over your front teeth first by applying equal pressure using both fingertips to the tops of your left and right molars until the aligner snaps into place.

You may use your index fingers (for the upper aligner) or thumbs (for the lower aligner) to gently remove the aligners starting in the back of the mouth, or you can use the provided “Outie” tool to remove the aligners.

Place your aligners in the provided storage container provided in your kit.

Note: Do not store your aligners in a napkin as you run the risk of them being thrown away accidentally.

You may use a soft toothbrush and a little toothpaste to keep your aligners clean between use.

You can drink cold or room temperature water. For everything else, the answer is no.

It is especially important to avoid drinking hot beverages because they can change the shape of your KiyoClear Aligners.

Drinking juice, coffee, tea, red wine, mixed drinks, beer and sodas can stain the aligner material, even if you drink using a straw. Also, you don’t want that liquid to get trapped in between your aligners and your teeth where it can cause tooth decay and really bad breath!

We recommend rinsing your mouth with water after you have had something to drink, before you put your aligners back in.

No. Take out your aligners before you eat and brush your teeth before putting them back in.

Pro Tip #1 – If you are out at a restaurant and don’t have a toothbrush handy, rinse your mouth with water and use a paper towel to remove food from your teeth before putting your KiyoClear Aligners back in.

Pro Tip #2 – You can buy disposable teeth cleaning wipes on Amazon or at the drugstore. These easily fit into your wallet or purse and can be used for teeth cleaning when you don’t have a toothbrush.

More KiyoClear Aligners Q+A

Your KiyoClear Aligners should be cleaned daily.

We recommend that you purchase a very soft toothbrush for cleaning your aligners. This will minimize scratching. Some patients choose toddler toothbrushes because they are especially soft.

Retainer cleaners are available on Amazon or at the drugstore. These are usually tablets that you drop in water and then soak your trays for 15 to 30 minutes. Be sure to use a product that says it is for aligners and retainers. Don’t use products that are made only for dentures. After cleaning you will want to use a toothbrush to remove anything still stuck on your aligners and then rinse them with warm water, not hot.

You can also use a small amount of clear liquid soap and a toothbrush with warm water. Gently clean your aligners, being thorough enough to remove everything, but not applying so much pressure that you will scratch the surface. Be sure to rinse your aligners well after cleaning and before putting them back in your mouth.

DON'T USE:

Mouthwash – it can cause discoloration

Toothpaste – toothpastes are often abrasive and can scratch aligners.

Colored or scented soap – this can discolor your aligners or leave behind a residue

Alcohol – this can degrade the material used to make your KiyoClear aligners

Harsh detergents or cleaning chemicals can damage your aligners and should not be ingested.

It is common for aligners to be tight when you first put them on. Sometimes you can see gaps between your teeth and the aligners. To help your KiyoClear Aligners seat properly, use the chewies included with your aligners. They are the little foam rolls. Chewing on one for five to ten minutes will help your aligners seat properly.

If this does not work, you may need to wear your old set of aligners for a week or two until they are loose enough to easily be removed with just your fingers.

It is important when you move to a new set of KiyoClear Aligners to hold on the set you just finished wearing.

If you lose your current aligner, use the last set that fit and contact the dental office immediately.

One way to avoid losing aligners is to consistently put them back in the plastic retainer case whenever you take them out of your mouth. Don’t wrap them in a napkin or papertowel. This is a common way for KiyoClear Aligners to be lost.

If you clean your aligners every day, they should not smell bad, but if you miss a day and there is an odor, you can clean them with aligner cleaning tablets.

You can also dissolve a tablespoon of baking soda in a half cup of water and soak your aligners for an hour.  Don’t scrub the aligners with the baking soda because it is abrasive and can scratch the plastic.

Consuming any kind of tobacco product is harmful to your oral health and your systemic health, so it is best to avoid tobacco products altogether.

If you do consume tobacco products while in treatment, be sure to remove your KiyoClear Aligners. Tobacco can stain them. Be sure to brush your teeth before putting your KiyoClear Aligners back in.
